Al-Awda NY-NJ, Direct Action Palestine, Jews Against the Occupation, New Jersey Solidarity, and the Palestine Activist Forum New York present:

Feb. 2, 2003
PALESTINE SPEAKERS' TRAINING WORKSHOP
11 AM - 4 PM
at the Brecht Forum
122 West 27th St., NYC

As activists who have either been to Palestine or who organize in support of Palestinian liberation, we are often called upon to speak- -to give reportbacks and share our experiences, to explain the history of the conflict, and to articulate why others should join us in the struggle for justice in Palestine.

In doing so, we often face organized opposition, difficult questions, and audiences from widely varied backgrounds seeking different types of information and knowledge. In order to effectively communicate, we must be engaging, effective, and able to handle difficult situations. We want to use this training to, as a community, improve our public speaking skills, enhance our abilities to communicate complicated issues, educate ourselves about how to handle difficult questions, and train ourselves in press contact and media outreach work.

Please join us on February 2! We have a full day planned of exciting, involving training sessions:

11 am - 11:30 am: Introduction and Resource Packet Guide--new resources for you to enhance your own knowledge

11:30 am -12: 30 pm: General Speaking Skills -- how to be engaging and exciting, choosing your audience and tailoring your message

12:30 pm - 2:00 pm: Answering Difficult Questions -- how you can be prepared to confront and answer difficult or complicated questions--get involved in providing the answers people need and want

2:00 pm - 3:00 pm: Lunch break

3:00 pm - 4:00 pm: Media Skills Training -- how you can enhance your effectiveness as a press contact person and improve media outreach

We invite you to register for the training and send all questions to the speakers' training committee at palestinespeakers@yahoo.com. We look forward to seeing you there and sharing our skills as a community!
